Worcester’s DCU Center signs coffee deal with Honey Dew

The DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, has struck a multiyear beverage deal with Honey Dew Donuts.

Owners of the DCU Center, SMG, signed the deal at the beginning of the month in a move that will bring Honey Dew’s range of coffee to the concession stands that serve the thousands of people who turn up to sporting events, music concerts and expositions.

The main tenant of the center is the Worcester Sharks, who ply their trade in the American Hockey League and are affiliated with the San Jose Sharks, of the premier American ice hockey league the NHL.

The agreement continues in the tradition of Massachusetts teams and venues striking partnerships with local companies, though the majority of the deals are with Dunkin’ Donuts, one of America’s biggest and most popular chains. One such franchise that has a deal with the Boston based beverage company is Boston’s own Celtics, who have played the occasional preseason fixture at the DCU Center in recent years.

The contract took effect in February, though details about the deal have only emerged in recent days. The agreement is expected to last until January 2017, according to DCU spokeswoman Amy Peterson.

Besides providing drinks to thousands of sport and concert goers, the contract also covers any private functions and privately catered events that will be held at the DCU Center, ensuring that Honey Dew coffee is the only hot beverage option available.

“We believe in local partnerships, great service and quality products,” said Sally Dunn, the general manager of the premise, in a statement.

Honey Dew are based in Massachusetts town of Plainville, forty-five miles away from Worcester and since their foundation in 1973 they have gone on to operate or franchise a total of 145 stores throughout the New England area.
