Yes, somebody really has created coffee-flavoured wine

 Coffee and wine

At World Coffee Press we do like the occasional glass of wine, we also love our coffee. But we had always thought that these two different drinks inherited different spheres: One is mornings and the end of meals; the other is most likely to be consumed in the evening and alongside a repast.

Coffee is coffee and wine is wine and never the twain shall meet, to steal a phrase from the esteem Rudyard Kipling.

It had never crossed anyone’s mind to combine the two: even Starbucks with their expansion into alcohol sales and evening menus hasn’t’ created a Winecinno (yet).

But it seems that somebody else has, and it has got our taste buds all confused.

Friends Fun Wine, who ‘continue to pioneer the “Fun Wine” category, are set to add two new flavours to their expansive range of low calorie, low alcohol wine. The American company has decided to mix ‘the world’s most popular Day Drink with the world’s most popular Night Drink.

Their creations are the Cabernet Coffee Espresso and the Chardonnay Coffee Cappuccino, and they should be on supermarket and convenience store shelves in the not too distant future.

According to the corresponding press release, the “Cabernet Coffee Espresso features a rich flavour of fresh cabernet grapes, espresso coffee, and a hint of chocolate [whilst the] Chardonnay Coffee Cappuccino features sweet, refreshing Chardonnay grapes with vanilla cappuccino coffee and smooth hints of chocolate

What isn’t clear however is if real coffee has been added to the wine or if flavourings were just added, not that it especially matters at this stage.

“As creators of the Fun Wine category the addition [of these new drinks] strong aligns with our mission to deliver a FUN drinking experience,” Joe Peleg, the CEO of Friends Fun Wines said in an official statement.

Safe to say we’re intrigued, if a little unsure about the flavour.
