UK company takes delivery of a 600kg roaster

Lincoln & York, the British-based coffee roasting company has two reasons to celebrate at the moment: This year marks the twentieth anniversary of their North Lincolnshire headquarters and they have just installed a Brambati drum roaster, which has been stated as being the largest coffee roaster in the United Kingdom.

Weighing in at 600kg the roaster isn’t easily moveable and, now in full working order, it is seen as an investment that will hopefully boost the company’s production capacity by 70%. It’s certainly a good time for Lincoln & York!

The purchase of this record breaking drum is part of a wider investment plan that has seen roasting and packing equipment moved into a new facility at the Elsham Wold Industrial Estate, near Brigg, about ten miles away from the town of Scunthorpe.

“This new roaster will allow us to fulfil high volume orders for our largest national and international customers, increasing capacity across our other roasting equipment,” said a spokesperson for Lincoln & York.

Alongside taking ownership of its mammoth new toy, the company, as part of their expansion plans, has opened up a contingency plant on the same site which features its own “micro roaster which will be used for roasting smaller batches of high quality speciality coffee.” Running on a separate power supply, this new build will also take over day-to-day work should anything happen to the large unit – though hopefully they won’t have to see that scenario turn to reality

“Having our own contingency operation has always been our ambition,” the spokesperson proclaimed.

It has been a long road to get the roaster working. With it being specially imported from Brambati’s base near the Italian commune of Voghera in Lombardy, it has taken six engineers eight months to install.

That first batch of coffee will surely taste sweeter than normal.
