The quick coffee scene in Canada is about to get a lot more interesting as fast-food chain McDonald’s is set to cut the ribbon on a stand-alone McCafe next week.

The location, which is at Toronto’s Union Station, will open up next week. A second, in an office-based location, is due to follow in January next year.

A little sigh gets let out as figure reaches up remove the calendar from its home for the past twelve months. In its place a new calendar, all shiny, picturesque and blank. “New year; new me,” says whispers in a sullen tone.

It is a scene that gets played out in houses around the world. As soon as one year ends, resolutions aplenty get thrown around. Some might opt to head to the gym more regularly; other may decide to be more positive and a few opt for a complete overhaul. McDonald’s certainly fall into the latter category.

McDonald’s in new ‘hot coffee’ case

After originally being denied the chance to take a Brooklyn-based McDonald’s franchise to court, Boris Khanimov now has a second bite of the cherry and intends to take full advantage of the situation.

His initial claim was waved away two years, but a local appeals court has reinstated him claim and proceedings against the franchise, officially known as 82 Court Street Corp., will begin again.

“There was no competent proof submitted by 82 Court,” the appeal judges wrote in their statement.

In the local McDonald’s store there was a queue of people patiently waiting to be served in the so called ‘Breakfast rush’. Ron Morais picked up his cup of coffee, paid, and left.

As he made his way through the Canadian town he sipped on his coffee until he reached the dregs.

If you one of the many people who like to start their day off by having a cup of coffee, then McDonald’s might just have a deal for you – but only if you act quickly.

From next Tuesday (September 16th) through America’s National Coffee Day (September 29th), the retailer famed for their golden arches will be offering customers a free (small) coffee during their breakfast trading hours.

Only while stocks last and only at participating restaurants, obviously.

When Dunkin Donuts signed an agreement to open up and outlet in a Montgomery County shopping centre, the move, as expected, did not sit well with McDonald’s.

The New England favourite offers a menu that includes signature ranges of coffee, breakfast and lunch items that you may associate with other food and beverage retailers.

McDonald’s took note and reacted to this news in a headline grabbing manner.
