World Barista Championship 2009
Gwilym Davies was crowned the new 2009 World Barista Championship on Sunday. This is an amazing achievement for the UK as the last three winners have been from the UK, what an inspiration.
Gwilym runs two coffee-carts in east London’s street markets, he won by a margin of just three and a half points. Gwilym has been coached by the 2007 World Barista Champion James Hoffmann of Square Mile Coffee, incidentally James also had a hand in the 2008 winner Stephen Morrissey, can you see a theme here??
From my understanding all these guys have read the UKBC and WBC rule book in great detail. The scoring system in recent years has changed which interestingly mean that your score more points from the actual taste, colour and consistency of the espresso rather than anything else.
