Looks like Starbucks is heading back into growth thanks to sales of instant coffee and with cost cutting.
Their new instant coffee, Via, is currently being sold in the US and Canada outlets, however with instant being more popular in the UK and Europe, it looks likely it will be sold there as well.
Cost cutting wise they have closed 900 stores over the last 2 years and streamlined their operations.
So the high street is back on the up, by selling coffee to use at home…
Following a complaint by Starbucks to the Advertising Standards Authority, Costa Coffee is now under investigation for its claim that “7 out of 10 coffee lovers prefer Costa”.
Costa ran this poster campaign in March 2009 claiming the figures had come from a survey of ‘regular coffee shop customers’.

The Costa Advert in question
This survey was only of customers of Starbucks and Costa who ordered a cappuccino, the complaint stating that the cappuccino only makes up a small proportion of the drinks sold, therefore not giving a fair comparison.
The outcome of the investigation is not expected for several weeks.
