There was an interesting coffee news story on the Mother Nature Network recently, highlighting the good work done by the Rainforest Alliance in Guatemala.
In developing countries, campaigns to help the producers of coffee often reap rewards which spread far beyond simply increasing output.
For instance, under the Fair Trade scheme and also with the Rainforest Alliance movement, the improved income has a positive knock on effect on communities and their families too.

Coffee shop to become home for MTV reality show
If you are a coffee shop owner and looking to raise the profile of your coffee shop, there are worse things that you could do than host the filming of a reality show for MTV.
The owner of Dakota Coffee Works is one such coffee shop owner and he has been in the news recently, commenting on the exciting developments in his coffee shop.
Apparently, MTV3 made contact with Ron McGhee recently, to ask if they could film an episode of Quiero Mi Baby in his coffee outlet.

Celebrities stop by in a local coffee cafe
If you happened to be at the Local Color Café in Seattle on Thursday 19th July, you were in for a rather nice surprise.
The celebrities Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis were in town and turned up at the café to promote their film, The Campaign.
The two actors did not just smile for the cameras – they actually took part in the coffee cafe culture and took orders from customers.

Caber Coffee has a new Fairtrade range
The Scottish coffee company, Caber Coffee, has been in the news recently as they have recently launched a range of Fairtrade beverages, including of course, coffee.
The family run business specialises in distributing beverage ingredients and equipment to other businesses in Scotland and has been doing so since 1988.
As reported in the Grocer, the new Ethyco range, has the tagline ‘Coffee with conscience’ and as part of the ethical initiative, 2% of sales are to be contributed to social projects in the United Kingdom. In a world that is increasingly conscious of environmental and ethical issues, this is surely good news to the conscientious consumer.

Coffee and Alzheimer’s
There has been a story in the news recently – if you enjoy drinking coffee, then it is a good idea to drink more of it as you get older.
Why?
Because recent findings in an article published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, has concluded that drinking coffee can help to fight the battle against the disease.
The research project took place in Florida, United States and it seems that if you drink three cups of coffee daily, this can help to slow the onset of Alzheimer’s.
