Starbucks and Match hope to facilitate coffee dates this Valentine’s

With Christmas now firmly in the rear view mirror and those New Year party outfits back in the wardrobe, February is here and that can only mean one thing: Valentine’s Day.
Luckily – or unluckily for some as the case may be – Starbucks and the popular dating website Match are hooking up in a bid to help singles find their potentially perfect partner.
According to data released by the pair, over 3 million people list ‘coffee and conversations’ as an interest, a fact which has seen the two companies join together in a mutually beneficial relationship. For the past few days, users of the dating platform can opt to utilise the brand new ‘meet at Starbucks’ function to reach out to each other and organise a ‘coffee date’.
Apparently, over a third of singles prefer to head towards a coffee shop on their first date. “[M]more first dates happen at Starbucks than anywhere else,” Match’s Sam Yagan said.
“There’s no better time to celebrate meaningful moments of connection – and encourage new ones – than [in the run up to] Valentine’s Day,” commented Sharon Rothstein, Starbucks’ chief marketing officer .
“For more than forty years Starbucks has been a place to connect over a great cup of coffee,” she continued. “We’re a place where people come together to share important life moments [such as] first dates, marriage proposals…and so much more in our stores around the world.”
Also, in conjunction with cupid and the day couple’s get cosy and lusty individuals make romantic advances, Starbucks is set to hold the World’s Largest Starbucks Date event.
Taking place on February 13th, both Match and Starbucks are inviting people from all four corners of the globe to head to participating stores where there will be a special menu on offer which pairs up coffees with snacks, pastries and other goodies. Outlets in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Korea and China, to name a few, are taking part.
There will also be accompanying music (picked by employees) and a hashtag, #starbucksdate
How lovely.
Do you think that love will be in the air now you can plan a coffee date with a prospective partner?
