Korea has impressive coffee statistics

According to recent news stories, it seems that Korea, like much of the rest of the world, has been bitten by the coffee bug.

It is said that a recent research project has been carried out into the number of coffee shops and the hard cold figures of cash that have been generated by coffee sales.

The results are surprising.

So what did this research reveal? According to reports, it was done by KB Financial Group.

How many coffee shops do you imagine run in the country? Apparently the answer to that question is over twelve thousand as at the count last year.

That is an increase in number by about 54% when compared with the similar figures from 2010.

Over the last five years, the numbers are even more pronounced – apparently the number of coffee shops has increased 887.3% over that period.

The shops are no longer largely concentrated in the Seoul area, but are spreading out to the other major Korean cities.

And sales? How much coffee was sold? Again the answer is rather astonishing.

The reports are that the sales figures skyrocketed by an astonishing 59.7% (comparing last years figures to the equivalent ones in 2010), to about 2.2 billion dollars.

Yes, 2.2 billion dollars. That indicates that there is quite a rush on the caffeine elixir in the country.

If you look at the figures over the last five years, the reports are that sales have risen 1,598.8% which, by anyone’s reckoning, is quite frankly mind-blowing.
