Italian coffee company sees opportunities in Chinese market

China, as we all know, was once famous for its tea-drinking population.

‘For all the tea in China’ was a popular phrase coined from this love of tea.

However, there is a change on the wind and coffee is going down very nicely thank you in the big country.

This fact has not been missed by several coffee companies, including the Italian operation, Saicaf.

As reported in China Daily recently, there has been news that this Italian company has plans to make a significant investment in the country.

Over the next four years, Saicaf has indicated that it will pump in over $15.9 million, to set up a significant presence in China.

What does significant mean for these purposes?

About 100 cafes are thought to be opened as part of this programme.

So who is Saicaf?

It is a company which was set up in 1932 in Italy, but is now owned by Asia Jumbo Ltd.

Saifac is now one of the top suppliers of coffee in Italy, but is setting its sights on new markets.

The intention is to add to its recent flagship coffee shop in Shanghai over the next two years, to reach twenty shops in Beijing and Shanghai.

The company is also likely to extend to other cities, such as Nanjing, Hangzhou and Wuhan.
