Police in Indonesia have begun investigating the death of a twenty-seven-year-old woman, Wayan Mirno Salim, who died after drinking an iced coffee purchased from a restaurant located inside Jakarta’s popular Grand Indonesia Mall.

Officials believe she was poisoned.

Though the results of a full autopsy are still pending, a spokesperson did confirm that damage to some internal organs “may have been caused by a strong acid” and reports in the Indonesian press indicate that traces of cyanide were present in Mrs Salim’s drink.

The owner of the restaurant has told the press that he spilt some of the drink on his hand and felt a numbing sensation shortly afterwards.

The Jakarta Post states that Mirna was with a couple of friends, one of whom placed an order for a round of drinks. After taking a couple of sips of her drink, she then started having seizures and was transported to a nearby hospital where she, unfortunately, passed away.

“We will once more question Mirna’s friends, her family members and employees at the restaurant,” said Detective Chief Krishna Murti of the Jakarta Police. However, it seems that one of the friends – referred to simply as ‘S’ – is, at this moment, failing to comply with the request.

“We will send another summons on Monday,” the chief said.

“We asked her to come on Sunday night but she refused. We can’t force her because her status is still a witness.”

Mirna’s family has understandably remained quiet on the issue though Edi Darmawan Salihin, her father, has called for justice.

“Someone did [something] bad to my daughter.”

“We entrust the case to the police [and] I believe the police will be able to arrest the perpetrator so my daughter can rest in peace.
