National Coffee Day

The celebrations for National Coffee Day are growing.

It is an event which takes place on 29 September each year and several countries celebrate their love of coffee on this day.

Did you remember?

Did you take advantage of the celebration?

It’s also known as International Coffee Day, or simply Coffee Day in various countries.

No-one is quite sure what the precise origin of the celebration is, although several countries take part, such as the United States of America and Japan.

It is said that the first International Coffee Day was celebrated in 1983 in Japan by The All Japan Coffee Association and in China in 1997, although it was not made a yearly event until 2001.

It had its first mention in the United States some time around 2005.

What happens on the day?

The general idea is to support fair trade and to make people more aware of the reality of life as a coffee grower, together with its challenges.

In order to raise awareness of these issues, many companies and businesses will offer free or discounted cups of coffee on National Coffee Day.

If you keep your eye on the local press, you are likely to find many tips and suggestions to take advantage of these offers during the celebration in participating countries.

There is even a trend on its way to start sending National Coffee Day cards (or perhaps e-cards) too.
