Risks of stroke and drinking green tea and coffee

Many of us know someone who has suffered from a stroke it is a common condition and a devastating one at that.
It means that the blood vessel is blocked or it bursts.
A recent article has been published in the journal Stroke, which indicates that some beverages may help reduce the incidence of this condition.
So what is the deal?
It seems from the study that those who consume a minimum of a daily cup of coffee reduce their risks of suffering a stroke by 20%, or around four cups of green tea.
This percentage is compared with those who rarely drink the beverage.
The study assessed over 83,000 adults between the ages of 45 and 74, over an average period of thirteen years.
Other factors were also taken into account when assessing these findings, such as gender, smoking, diet, alcohol consumption, exercise and so on.
Why do the experts think that coffee might have this effect?
Perhaps it is the presence of antioxidants in the drink.
This is not a conclusive answer, however, as caffeine can also increase blood pressure.
More research is needed but it is an interesting starting point, isn’t it?
