Coffee and breast cancer

The coffee press has some hot news: coffee-drinkers, it appears from a recently published study, have less chance of developing breast cancer.
Given the quantity of coffee which is drunk globally coffee is one of the most popular beverages the world over there is a lot of research into the effects of caffeine and coffee on the human body.
A study in Lund University in Sweden, has recently looked into the relationship between coffee drinking and breast cancer and the results are positive.
Those who are suffering from breast cancer and who were treated with a drug called Tamoxifen and who also drink at least a couple of cups of coffee on a daily basis, were shown to have a lower risk of relapse when compared to women who don’t drink coffee.
The study looked specifically at those women who had completed their treatment for breast cancer and were on this drug.
As with all medical studies, it is also necessary to be cautious.
These are early days and more research is needed, especially as the researchers need to look at other factors and rule out other causes.
The research into the effects of coffee is being well documented and there have been a number of studies which indicate that there are benefits to drinking the stuff (over and above the obvious pleasure of the drink). Keep checking this blog for further updates.
