Liver affected by coffee?

coffee health

Thanks to the huge popularity of coffee the world over, there is considerable time and expense invested in the effects of coffee consumption on the human body.

There has been an interesting article in Helio of late, which looks at the relationship between the liver and coffee consumption.

Did it find anything exciting?

According to the review, there seems to be a liver advantage to drinking coffee: livers seem to have a reduced likelihood of diseases and other issues when combined with an intake of coffee.

The researchers suggest these propositions draw their conclusions from the evaluation of many other studies.

They have looked at liver diseases such as viral hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcimona.

Nine of the studies related to participants who were at risk of liver disease.

Six of the studies looked at the effect of coffee consumption on cirrhosis for those with chronic liver disease.

Those who consumed coffee daily (especially those who drank over three cups per day) were found to have a lower death risk and there were also suggestions that coffee reduced the progress of cirrhosis.

Similarly favourable outcomes were suggested in studies for those suffering with chronic hepatitis C   there was a reported ‘association’ between coffee consumption and the reduced disease progression and also reduced severity of fibrosis.

The researchers also reported various shortcomings to the various studies, which suggests that more work needs to be done. However, these initial findings are encouraging.
