Coffee to protect the rainforest

The Fairtrade coffee movement is gaining momentum and it is easy to spot Fairtrade coffee, if you are wanting a drink that is ethical as it is refreshing, keep and eye out for the logo on the packaging.

The Fairtrade programme works to ensure that the coffee farmers in developing countries are not only paid fairly for their product but are protected by contractual terms and conditions which benefit both the farmers and their local communities.

Puro Fairtrade Coffee has been in the news recently, as it has worked with World Land Trust, the international conservation charity, since 2005.

The idea behind the collaboration is that they work to buy and protect some of the most biologically significant and endangered habitats.

Each bag of Puro coffee generates money which is then used by the World Land Trust, to acquire rainforest, which is not only essential for biodiversity in countries which produce coffee but has an impact on the world as a whole.

The World Land Trust has partnered with various organisations to help to fund reserves and to create habitats for endangered species.

Since it started work in 1989, the World Land Trust has worked with partners to purchase and protect more than 500,000 acres of habitat which is under threat and worked to manage and actively protect more than 4 million acres across the globe.

So why not grab a bag of Puro coffee for yourself?

That little difference for you could be a massive one for a coffee farmer and the surrounding community, to the rainforest and maybe one day to the world.
