Torrington Titans use coffee as a sweetener

In 2007 Alex Rodriguez signed a decade long contract worth a reputed $275m with the iconic Baseball side the New York Yankees. Fast forward seven years and the man they call A-Rod has just been offered a contract of $5,000.
Rodriguez is currently serving a 162 game suspension as a result of the Biogenesis scandal that uncovered the usage of performance enhancing drugs by a number of stars plying their trade in Major League Baseball. The vast majority of those implicated were forced to sit out fifty games, yet for his part, Rodriquez was handed out the longest non-lifetimes ban in Baseball history which is seeing the third-baseman miss the entire 2014 season.
He is fighting the decision, the only party involved to be doing so, but aside from his lengthy and continuously escalating legal battles, he has a lot of free time on his hands now that he is not allowed to represent the Yankees or find employment in other baseball countries such as Japan or South Korea as both Asian nations honour any suspensions handed down by MLB. As such, he has become the focus of a well-timed publicity stunt that has coffee at the heart of it.
Playing in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League, the Torrington Titans have offered Rodriguez a very modest (for his standards anyway) deal in: ‘We can offer him $5,000 for the season,’ said Titans General Manager Joey Abis. ‘The Donut Station has offered him free coffee and donuts for the entire summer.’
It might not be a bad move for the disgraced star, but it certainly has been a great move for the Torrington Titans and The Donut Station who have been receiving column inches across America for their audacious proposition.
A quick search in a well-known search engine is quick to bring up ‘The Donut Station Torrington CT’ and it is likely they are taking full advantage of the free advertising.
The $5,000 might not be up to Rodriguez’s expectations, but the offer of free coffee?
Well, now that’s something that would grab anybody’s attention.
