Do you get confused by the coffee-drinks on sale?

One of the big advantages from our growing love of coffee is the ever-increasing variety of coffee drinks available.

Do you prefer espressos for a concentrateda shot of caffeine, or do you prefer a cappuccino or perhaps a latte?

A flat white or a mocha?

And how would you like your milk   skinny or regular?

If you are a coffee connoisseur, perhaps this level of detail is right up your street.

But there has been a story in the news recently, which argues against this terminology.

This is Gloucestershire has recently reported the story of Debenhams recent coffee-menu decision.

The shop has decided to create a new-look for customers.

Why bother streamlining the menu?

Apparently, feedback from customers indicated that 70% of them found the plethora of options to choose from rather confusing.

So how has the new-look menu been amended?

The idea is to use a Plain English style to make it clear what is on offer.

Instead of listing a latte, for instance, it is now to be called ‘really, really milky coffee’ and a cappuccino will be called ‘frothy coffee.

This new proposal, however, has not been met with universal approval.

Many in the industry believe that the change is ill-conceived.

After all, can it really be true that the average customer doesn’t not know what a cappuccino is?

Or a latte?

The sophistication of coffee is becoming more and more prevalent.

There are also those who think that, in fact, by introducing a new set of ‘Debenhams’ descriptions, the customer may be even more confused.

Of course this may also be an indication that the age range of Debenhams cafe customers tend to lean to the older generation, who may not frequent the more modern coffee shop.

What do you think?
