Cameroon coffee

There has been an interesting article recently in Business in Cameroon.
It seems that all is going well in Cameroon as far as coffee is concerned.
Of course, although many countries produce coffee, not all find the situation easy or similar.
For instance, there have been problems with disease in Central America recently, which is causing severe headaches for the coffee producers.
However, things are rosier in Cameroon, it seems.
According to statistics published by the National Tea and Coffee Board, there has been a hike in production of coffee by almost 31%.
During the period from 2010 to 2011, some 25,322 tons of coffee were produced, but the new figures have exceeded this considerably this time around.
Cameroon is not sitting on its laurels, however.
Once upon a time, it was a coffee force to be reckoned with and in 1985 produced some 75,000 tons of Arabica coffee.
There is another target to keep the good work up and higher, more ambitious targets have been set.
What are they?
It is hoped that within the next couple of years, production continues to rise to 90,000 tons of coffee, annually, by 2015.
One issue that will be on the agenda, given this aspirational target, is quality control, however.
It is said that there will be a drive by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Cameroon, to see to the distribution of pesticides and young plants to the coffee farmers.
They will also look to enforce regulations concerning coffee production.
