Coffee predictions for India

The coffee industry is a global one, but the markets in each country have their own personality and issues to address.
In terms of the Indian coffee industry, as reported in The Hindu Business Line recently, it seems that it’s time to brace yourself and do a little strategising.
So what’s the story?
Apparently, the experts think that exports from India may fall this marketing year.
It is thought that this drop may amount to about 5%. In the last marketing year, 2011-2012, the coffee exports from the country were a cool 5.81 million 60 kilo bags.
However, it is thought that this figure may fall to 5.51 bags (which is still hardly to be sneezed at).
Why the expected drop in Indian coffee exports?
The US Department of Agriculture expects there to be greater global supplies.
Robusta is the big coffee bean to be exported from India and, in contrast to the falling prices for Arabica coffee beans, it has been relatively stable in value.
This has led some to conclude that the exports are ‘near record.’
That said, bear in mind that Indian coffee exports are still significant.
Although the Indian coffee market is currently focused mainly on coffee exports, the domestic market is also growing.
The Coffee Board indicated that consumption, domestically, is up by 6%.
