There’s good news on the horizon for coffee lovers.

A recent study has hit the coffee headlines because it seems that there are some useful side-effects of coffee drinking for those who suffer from memory-related illnesses, such as dementia and Alzheimers disease.

The Mount Sinai School of Medicine has apparently been doing some work on the effects of decaffeinated coffee on patients who suffer from type 2 diabetes.

They discovered that there seems to be some link between the improvement of brain energy metabolism and the consumption of decaffeinated coffee.

Reported quotes by leader of the study, Guilio Maria Pasinetti, reveal that their investigations show that decaffeinated coffee may have two benefits – both preventative and also as a treatment for the worsening cognitive capabilities in those suffering from type 2 diabetes and also aging plus neurodegenerative disorders.

The experiments that were part of the study were carried out on mice over a period of five months.

During this time, it is reported that the animals were given a decaffeinated coffee preparation and their responses were monitored.

It seems that the mice-brains were more effective in metabolising glucose and, subsequently, using it for cellular energy.

Of course, many of the diseases which plague our society are linked to memory loss, such as dementia and Alzheimers and there is talk that the use of decaffeinated coffee as a result of the findings of this study may be able to help sufferers.

Further research will be done to find out more.
